Fellow Chapter 29 Members and Friends:

Sad news

For those of you that have not heard, we lost another Founding Member of Chapter 29, this month; Kenny Barnes. In addition to having the foresight to start this club, he was a successful businessman, Hayward resident. and accomplished pilot. Moreover, he was a really nice person and I believe that he will be missed by all that were acquainted with him. At this point, I do not know about any other plans or recommendations for charitable organizations for donations, etc.

Display Day this weekend at HWD

This Saturday (October 18th) we have our regularly scheduled Display Day from 9am to 1pm. NOTE: If you’re visiting and driving in, the easiest access point is via the Administrative Building to the right of the Control Tower. There is usually plenty of parking in the lot.

Come on out and enjoy some sunlight, aircraft and good company with fellow chapter members.

The weather forecast is for Severe Clear. Hope to see you all there!

Message from Tim Roberts, President VAA29:

Chapter 29's Board members met this month to discuss several upcoming activities, including an actual Young Eagles Rally, and a lunch get together. Details to follow.
Deene  Ene has had to vacate her position as Young Eagles Coordinator. VP Harry Shin has stepped up to temporarily fill this position. If someone is interested in filling this rewarding position, please contact Tim or Harry.
If you have any thoughts about Chapter activities, please contact any of the Board members.

If any Pilot is missing a YE Certificate, please contact Tim now, rather than later so this can be provided in a timely manner.

Note From Harry

“For those of you I didn’t see during the Open House, I have your display certificates so remind me to give them to you on Saturday.

That segues to a realization that the end of the year is fast approaching. It would be great if you could go through your certificates and let me know if you’re missing any, rather than trying to play catch-up in January.”

Old business:

Newsletter Help Needed!

Monthly, Bimonthly, Quarterly... any contribution would be appreciated. If you have writing skills and availability, please let us know. An occasional article with a few good pictures, might be a good opportunity for a student trying to develop their skills or possibly wanting to earn a few school credits. Your Chapter enjoys having these types of activities and hearing about them. Please reach out if you would like to help.

Young Eagles Cancelled this weekend...
Please contact Harry Shin if you have ideas for a Young Eagles coordinator replacement.

The new EAA Chapter (1686) in Oakland has meetings each 3rd Thursday of the month, from 6pm-8pm at the Oakland Aviation Museum.

Vintage Aircraft Association Chapter 29
Whether you fly, build, restore or simply enjoy vintage airplanes and aviation, you are welcome to attend our events and join our chapter. We are a group of aviation enthusiasts, aircraft restorers, and pilots who get together with like minded people to share ideas, exchange information, encourage safety, serve the local aviation community, and have a lot of fun doing so. Please come to our next meeting or event as our guest.

Located in Hayward, California, this Chapter was originally created as an EAA Antique/Classic chapter. In 1999 EAA changed the name of the Antique/Classic division to EAA Vintage Aircraft Association (VAA). Although this is a Vintage chapter, our members consist of pilots and non-pilots, singles, couples and families. Our pilots fly homebuilts, warbirds, light sport and production aircraft.

Our chapter is part of the worldwide network of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Vintage Aircraft Association (VAA) chapters. VAA brings together people from around the world who share an interest in the aircraft of yesterday. Since it was established in 1971, VAA has been working to keep aviation history alive.

EAA embodies the spirit of aviation through the world's most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts. EAA's 160,000 plus members enjoy the fun and camaraderie of sharing their passion for flying, building and restoring recreational aircraft. To find out more about EAA and our programs and services, please visit the EAA home page at eaa.org
